TB is caused by Mycobacterium tuberulosis, a gram positive bacteria. Although not really a significant problem in the U.S. and western countries, this disease is commonly contracted through airborne contact with people who are infected. There is no really effective way of preventing the disease, as the current vaccine based on BCG antigen is not very protective.
