what are the step at doctor takes in order to report a communicable disease such as tuberculosis

what are the step at doctor takes in order to report a communicable disease such as tuberculosis?

Tuberculosis means a person will be admitted to the hospital and put in isolation and that the disease control center in the area will be notified about who has it and where they are at the moment. The person will then be treated inside the hospital for tuberculosis. For such a serious disease the patient basically has no options when it comes to treatment, unlike other things like Hep. C where a patient has the right to decide what treatment he would want to have, a tuberculosis patient has to be treated how the doctors see fit with an extreme antibiotic regimen.
2 :
A doctor reports to the local health department in the city or closest to where the patient resides. This type of infectious disease has to be reported by telephone and within 24 hours of diagnoses. So the steps are: 1. Diagnose the TB 2. Pick up the phone and dial the health department 3. Make verbal report 4. Answer any questions asked
3 :
TweetyBird gave you a good answer. In addition to the information she provided, I can tell you that some states require that a form be filled out and sent to the State Dept. of Health. I do HIV testing in PA, and whenever there is a positive HIV test, I need to fill out a form to send to the state Dept. of Health. (The lab that actually does the testing notifies my local Dept. of Health office of any positive results immediately, and sends me a paper copy of the result. Then I notify my state office.) Reporting procedures may vary SLIGHTLY by state and according to which specific disease is involved

why does person with pulmonary tuberculosis has a bloody sputum

why does person with pulmonary tuberculosis has a bloody sputum?

1 :
Because the lung damage causes bleeding and the blood is coughed up.
2 :
It's simple - TB destroys the lungs. As the lung tissue deteriorates, it bleeds. The blood is an added irritant, and coughing it up is a natural body response to irritation of the respiratory system

what is the cause of hypoalbuminemia in patients with pulmunary tuberculosis

what is the cause of hypoalbuminemia in patients with pulmunary tuberculosis?

Albumin is a major protein in the human body, making up about 60% of total human plasma protein by mass. Many hormones, drugs, and other molecules are mostly bound to albumin in the bloodstream and must be released before becoming biologically active. Albumin is synthesized in the liver, and low serum albumin may be indicative of liver failure or diseases such as cirrhosis or chronic hepatitis. Hypoalbuminemia can also present as part of the nephrotic syndrome, in which protein is lost in the urine due to kidney damage. Low albumin levels can be an indicator of chronic malnutrition. Hypoalbuminemia may cause generalized edema (swelling) via a decrease in oncotic pressure. The serum albumin level is part of a standard panel of liver function tests. Levels below 3.5 grams per deciliter are generally considered low. Is that the answer you're looking for

why is it becoming increasingly important to immunise the human population against diseases as tuberculosis

why is it becoming increasingly important to immunise the human population against diseases as tuberculosis?

The tuberculosis vaccine has never been more than approximately 50% effective. It is not used in the US because it gives false positives on the PPD skin test.
2 :
Diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) are communicable diseases, they are infectious. And they spread easily. As globalization occurs, more and more people cross borders every single day, and a single infected person could cause an international epidemic. As it is, even with TB immunizations so readily available, TB is still one of the top 3 killers (single agent) worldwide, killing 1.6 million people in 2002. Over 1/3 of the people in the world today have TB bacterium, and some do not even know it, and because they are spread so easily (by a single aerosol droplet which could be spread through talking or kissing) infections occur at a rate of one per second! An ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure. P.S. To answer to the guy above me, while it is true there is no known effective vaccine for adults, there are for children!
3 :
There is an increased incidence in the US because of migration - mostly form Mexico, where the disease is very common. TB is a very underrated disease. It' one of the most common causes of death worldwide. There haven't been new medications develloped in the past 40 years, and there are new resistant strains that are becoming common. The vaccine is useful to prevent a few cases of disease, but more importantly, to prevent severe disease in the very young and the very old - in this it is effective, and widely used worldwide. It's not used in the US because it interferes with the skin test that's used to quickly diagnose TB

First what makes you "think" you have TB? If you do indeed have TB you will be on a long, long course oral medication.
2 :
There are several steps in diagnosing tuberculosis. First is the PPD test, where they give you the little shot in your arm and check it in a few days. If that comes back positive, they will usually do a chest X-ray and/or sputum (stuff you cough up) testing to confirm you do have tuberculosis. The treatment for latent TB (you don't have any symptoms, the TB is dormant in your lungs) is 6-9 months of a special antibiotic you have to take everyday. It's very important that you take the medicine the entire time because it won't work if you don't. If the TB is latent, you are not contagious and you can continue working/going to school/etc. If the TB is active, they give you several antibiotics that you take for 12-18 months. You are contagious at this time, and you have to stay out of public areas, or wear a mask when you do. Again, you have to take the medicine the whole time or it won't work. Best wishes and I hope everything is okay!!!

Hi. I personally dont have TB but i have been taking care of TB patients for 5 years. This can be a very trying time for the whole family because there is always a risk and chances that more than 1 family member could be infected. I would suggest that the whole family gets tested to rule out anyone else. About the treatment, It can be very stressing and sometimes also harmfull, but the only way to cure it is to take it. The treatment consists of 2 months of a combination of 4 or 5 drugs and a continuation phase of atleast 2 drugs for atlest 6-8 months. The first 2 months can be cery hard because of the number of pills their side effects. Some of the drugs like Rifampin can be very harmfull to the liver so its imoprtant to stop drinking while on this medication. Its also important to eat well while on this medication because for some reason it makes you want to eat all the time
