Not living with or working around migrant workers. I worked with migrant workers in OR, plus took a greyhound bus through, CA, AZ, NM, TX, LA, AL, and GA. Positive TB test while 5 months pregnant back in 1998 which landed me in an xray room with a lead apron draped over my pregnant belly! Had the baby, TB was of NO ISSUE. I got another chest x-ray to make sure I hadn't taken on active form. Took INH B6 every night for 6 months with once a month blood tests. And I am not sure about the reference site down below ... I was told I would ALWAYS test positive for TB, even though I have been treated ... so tell them to skip that test, perform blood work and a chest x-ray. The meds are nice ... INH can hurt your liver severely, that is why they conmbine it with B6. Also, nice tidbit ... INH makes you REALLY DROWSY .......... always nice with a newborn!

1. Wash your hands frequently, especially when you have been around people with chronic coughs. 2. Wear a mask. A special, high-microfiltration mask will keep the TB bacilli from invading your respiratory system. 3. Have an annual TB skin test. These are available for minimal cost at most community clinics, and at health fairs offered at shopping malls and senior centers. 4. Have a chest X-ray if you are sensitive to the TB skin test. An X-ray can detect clinical signs of TB in your lungs. 5. Avoid standing too close to people when they are coughing. You can never know for sure if you are being exposed to TB, but if you stay away from the germs spewed about when people cough and sneeze, you will reduce your risk of becoming infected. 6. Breathe in lots of fresh air. 7. Eat a healthy diet, rich in vitamins, minerals, calcium, protein and fiber. please refer to the link i listed for more tips on this topic :)

You can get information from your County Public Health Department, from your doctor, or the Center for Disease Control. Immigrants aren't the only ones carrying TB. Americans go to other countries, and bring TB back with them. Persons that have been in prisons can pick up TB and bring it out with them. Even persons living in poverty, of all ethnic groups, can have and transmit TB. It is best to get all of the info before ostracizing immigrants or any other group.

I will answer this one but I think you are doing your homework and you need to practice spelling based on your other questions. To lower your chances of getting TB: Stay out of the elevator at the court house. Stay out of jail. Stay away from drug houses. Stay off of of airplanes. Do not travel to foreign countries. Do not use public phones. Do not travel on public transportation. Do not hang out around homeless people. I am not saying I practice this. And I do not care about the best answer

Low-grade fever, especially at night. A deep cough, typically. Night sweats. Fatigue. It would be a good idea to get a Mantoux skin test if you think you may have it. You could also get a chest X-ray to completely confirm or deny it, as it should be visible in your lungs

Hi there. Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection. It is transported through close contact with people. So sneezing, coughing, spitting etc will give you the bacterium. Lots of times when it taken in by people, white blood cells will destroy the cell because an immune response is triggered. It most likely attacks the lungs in the body. The bacteria infects your sputum (spit) and turns it bloody. This is because the lung tissue is damaged. If the TB then spreads to other organs such as heart, liver, bones etc. The tissue can get damaged causing organ failure. This is normally how it kills but often it is spotted by the coughing up of blood. Hope i helped

As a pediatrician I saw several children die of TB meningitis. Only one was in the USA, the others were in Haiti. Those victims were chronically ill and malnourished as well. Children can die from TB pneumonia, or from generalized TB sepsis, or destruction of the lungs via miliary TB. In the latter, sepsis and asphyxiation can go side by side

forearm

Just below the skin, so that it bubbles up, on the forearm. You'll have to go back to the testing site to have it read in 48-72hours.

yes it is. go get a TB test asap
2 :
it's really not that contagious, but it is spread by air-borne particles when a patient coughs. You will probably have to have a PPD to make sure you weren't exposed. Lots of nurses have positive PPDs from exposure, but they never develop the disease
3 :
Yes, TB is contagious but generally contracted from someone you have close and frequent contact with. Here's a link that should answer any questions about the disease... http://www.lungusa.org/site/apps/s/content.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=34706&ct=3052615 Good Luck...

The Health Department may ask to come and test everyone at your work anyway, but don't worry about it unless you start feeling unwell. http://www.angelic1healing.com

Crazy contagious. They have antituberculine drugs out there. Make sure you go to a doctor, this has to be taken care of. I'm surprised that the office did not warn everyone, or have someone in to assist all of you
