do you think people with contagious ,antibotic resistant tuberculosis be allowed in public

do you think people with contagious ,antibotic resistant tuberculosis be allowed in public?
what if one of these disease ridden individuals infected you or your family members, would you care about their civil rights then? just wondering cause the aclu is fighting for the rights of someone who has been jailed ,cause he knew he had this disease and still went shopping in public without a mask. hello,if the cdc knows you are contagious, so do you! he claims he didn't understand the severity, yeah right! what happens when he forgets next time? this dude needs to be deported back to Russia , to join his family,or stay in jail, well that's my harsh opinion, what's yours? okay, first off wearing a mask in public for non oinfected people is just paranoid and ineffective, a special mask is required and individuals must be fitted be a person certified to do this ,for the mask needed to filter out tb. harmony- the dude is incarcerated right now, it's no mixed up fact, go to aclu.org and read it for yourself and if this guy is not infectious then I have no issue with his being umasked in public, however he was jailed for being infectious without a mask in a convenience store, which is like an act of bioterrorism ,whether it's out of ignorance or not. infectious people need to be isolated in a hospitable , and refrain from freely walking around exposing the rest of the world

yes if u don't agree wear a mask when u walk in the public
2 :
no they should be quarantined
3 :
i would think they people with diseases should be able to go out in public. as long as they have the right things that they need so they want be spreading the germs to anyone else. such as a mask or gloves or whatever it is that they need.
4 :
If you think you're tough, take a listen to me.....anyone with an infectious disease, and has no regard for the health of others, definitely should be charged with attempted murder at the very least. What about the folks who have full blown aids, knows it, uses no protection, nor do they tell their partner? off with his......! or put a permanent plug in it. whichever fits. i guess I'm just a tiny bit more harsh, eh? And believe it or not, I'm a bleeding heart liberal! hah!
5 :
I think you may have your facts mixed up, the only person the CDC has had jailed since 1963 is the guy who was told not to travel and flew to Europe. He was contacted in Europe and told that his strain was especially dangerous and he needed to turn himself into the local infectious control and that he couldn't fly on commercial airlines. He then decided to fly back via Canada to get around the restriction. The CDC was then left with the task of tracking down everyone in the surrounding seats on the international flight he took and getting them tested. If ever someone earned a forcible quarantine this guy did.
6 :
That man doesn't have active Tuberculosis, which means that he is not contagious and never has been. People can carry the disease, but unless they have it active(fever and cough), then they might not even know they have it. He found out while being checked for something else. I think that people with active tuberculosis should be quarantined, but if you're not a threat to anyone, would you want to be basically jailed and your family lose the income your provide for who knows how long

I had a tuberculosis shot today and now my arm is red with a little swelling

I had a tuberculosis shot today and now my arm is red with a little swelling?
I had the test, not a shot!

it means you were tense when the shot was given. It will go down. Just wait a few days.
2 :
Ohh, boy. I hope it isn't a scar..my mom has a HUGE scar on her shoulder (it's 3D) from a shot she got when she was a girl..
3 :
I'm not claiming to be a doc, but watch the swelling and if you find you are working hard to breathe, HOSPITAL!!!!!
4 :
ok, I think you mean you had a tuberculosis TEST, not a shot, It is a small needle and a small amount of liquid is injected intradermally (under the skin) it makes a small bubble. This bubble goes down and the skin will turn a little red, that's normal. You must wait 48-72 hrs to have the test read, you return to where you got it. Induration and swelling is a positive result (that you have been exposed to TB), a little redness is ok as long as the skin is not raised up like a welt or pimple, it's ok. When they read your test, the nurse will run her finger over your skin to make sure it's not raised at all. If it is, they will measure it, a positive result is either >5mm or >10mm of induration depending on risk factors and the physician, hospital or clinic's protocols. However, you have to wait the full 48 hrs to read the test, my arm will get a little swelling at first too but it goes away after the first day and by the time the test is read the result is negative (no exposure to TB)
5 :
A TB test or a TB vaccination? If it was the test, BabyRN has a good answer for you.
6 :
That is normal.. Did they tell you to go back after a few days to have them look at the site of the test? Or give you a paper to show you what it should look like and what to look for

My younger sister recently was diagnosed of tuberculosis. Can her hubby have sex with her?Is it safe?

to be sure ask a doctor... the disease is really contagious.
2 :
he can ,but ur sister should not be an open case of tb.that is her sputum should be negative for tb bacilli and she should take her anti.tb drugs regularly
3 :
3 million people are diagnosed each year with an active Tuberculosis infection. It is something like 66% of the adult population who have the bacteria which cause it in their lungs. To be honest, I would recommend that they lay off it for a little while - if nothing else, it will give her lungs a rest. But in a couple of weeks I don't see why not. It is quite infectious - avoid anything she coughs up, and encourage her not to cough into the air - but it definately is not an STD. The antibiotics people have to take are quite nasty ones - you may find she is also just too tired or feeling to ill to want to.
4 :
When was she diagnosed and is she recieving treatment? If she has heen on treatment for more than 2 weeks then she can have sex, though i wonder if she will have the energy or the interest. If he has been living with her long before she was diagnosed, he should be taking INH for prophylaxis, hoping he was tested and is negative

can tuberculosis be spread by sex

can tuberculosis be spread by sex?
he is been treated for 4 months already and still taking his medicine and now we are having a sexual contact.

1 :
All he has to do is cough on you. Sex has nothing t odo with it.
2 :
no it cant. but stop kissing him. its spread via saliva
3 :
Its not an STI, you're more likely just to catch it from any close contact. I dont know where you are, but have you had the vaccine?
4 :
no it's a disease of the lungs
5 :
TB is airborne so if you getting close enough to have sex then he is close enough to breath on you and close enough to spreed it
6 :
It is not spread by sexual contact but it is spread by coughing and touching infected places. If you are close enough for sex then he is probably breathing on you and you are probably touching his hands which he has coughed on. I would suggest him having a conversation with his doctor to find out whether he is still contagious.
7 :
I would go get tested for TB. If he's still being treated it means the TB is still active and can still be passed to you. TB is not a nice bacteria and sometimes it doesn't stay in your lungs. It can infect everywhere from your lungs to your uterus. While sexual contact will not transmit TB, his breath will.
8 :
No, sexual contact does not spread tb, but the germs can be passed through the saliva. However, if he is being treated, and the doctor is letting him be around people, he is most likely not contagious at this time....
9 :
Assuming this was pulmonary TB (TB of the lungs, the most common) he is contagious by close contact. TB spreads through the air. Sex won't spread TB, but being that close to someone with TB will. BUT he has received treatment. If he has been treated that long and he has taken his medications correctly, he is most likely not contagious. treatment after a short period of time usually makes a person non-contagious. (they will usually do a sputum test and after 3 negative sputum tests he is considered non-contagious). But it is still important to continue the full course of treatment because TB are very strong bacteria and if all are not killed it may come back

what is tuberculosis; include the causative agent, how it is transmitted, and prevention/treatment?

TB is caused by Mycobacterium tuberulosis, a gram positive bacteria. Although not really a significant problem in the U.S. and western countries, this disease is commonly contracted through airborne contact with people who are infected. There is no really effective way of preventing the disease, as the current vaccine based on BCG antigen is not very protective. Diagnosis is through a ppd skin test and chest X-ray for signs of granulomas (active disease). Treatment is rifampin and INH

could tuberculosis be active at anytime even if you have inactive tb and taken medication4 6 months

could tuberculosis be active at anytime even if you have inactive tb and taken medication4 6 months?

yup. My dad had it in 1951. Showed up again in 1979. Get checked for it at least once a year. Or whatever your doc tells you.
2 :
Once you have TB you will ALWAYS have it. It is not curable. It can, however, be treated. If it becomes dormant you will not be contagious. Once it is treated it will become encapsulated in what is called a "tubercule" or a "granuloma" where it will remain for the rest of your life, and cause you no symptoms. If your immune system becomes compromised(from cancer, Aids, etc.), then it can break out and become active again. If you have had it once you will always have a positive skin test, and the granuloma will be visible on a chest x-ray. It is, however, very possible to treat it and be symptom free afterward
