Tuberculosis- what can i do

Tuberculosis- what can i do?
my girlfriend has tuberculosis, is there anything i should be worried/aware about? anything i can help her with or tips from experience?

1 :
If your girlfriend has been diagnosed with tuberculosis she will have been placed on an intensive 6 month treatment programme of several antibiotics. You need to make sure she takes all of her tablets properly and for the full length of time. You and those in close contact with her are at high risk of catching TB from her. If you havent been vaccinated you'll need to be put on prophylactic antibiotics as well and arrange for the TB vaccination.
2 :
Has she been diagnosed by a doctor? if so, check with your health professional on ways to protect yourself from TB. You need to know if it is active or not and work from there.
3 :
Transmission can only occur from people with active—not latent—TB. The probability of transmission from one person to another depends upon the number of infectious droplets expelled by a carrier, the effectiveness of ventilation, the duration of exposure, and the virulence of the M. tuberculosis strain. The chain of transmission can therefore be broken by isolating patients with active disease and starting effective anti-tuberculous therapy. After two weeks of such treatment, people with non-resistant active TB generally cease to be contagious. Do perform HANDWASHING all the time ..
4 :
Well let's start by really getting to know what tuberculosis is....and what cause's people to get it..Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection caused by a germ called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attack the lungs, but they can also damage other parts of the body. TB spreads through the air when a person with TB of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes or talks. If you have been exposed, you should go to your doctor for tests. You are more likely to get TB if you have a weak immune system. Now what should you do whats the other part of the ?. But I think you already know...Obviously you two are still together so continue to love her & HAVE PATIENCE with her...while she may have some of these symptoms just know it isn't her, its her body trying to fight of tuberculosis A bad cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer Weight loss Coughing up blood or mucus Weakness or fatigue Fever and chills Night sweats THIS IS SERIOUS...TUBERCULOSIS If not treated properlycan be deadly. You can usually cure active TB by taking several medicines for a long period of time. People with latent TB can take medicine so that they do not develop active TB

Where is tuberculosis found

Where is tuberculosis found?
As in what parts of the world be as specific as possiable.
Infectious Diseases - 7 Answers

1 :
In the thyroid area by the throat.
2 :
i dont know exactly what part of the world but i do know it affects the kidneys
3 :
Not sure about what part of the world either but it affects the LUNGS.
4 :
Some of the answers above are wrong !! TB is a lung disease. I can tell you with certainty that TB is being found here (occasionally) in South Korea.
5 :
its worldwide, endemic now in the former Soviet Union, and all other areas where crowding is present and sanitation and health care are poor.
6 :
Primarily its a contagious, infectious disease of the lungs. It can also infect the kidney's,and bones, the most common. Other sites include , out side the lungs & chest cavity, the abdominal cavity, the "sac" around the heart called the "pericardium",bladder, brain, spine, and reproductive organs, and joints. This also can be spread from an infected mother to her unborn babyThere are 5 specific antibiotics for its treatment. It remains a "world " health.problem. Take care. SW RNP
7 :
TB is found throughout the entire world. Countries that have an increased number of cases are Mexico, Haiti, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, South Korea, and India. If you have been to any of these countries and then get a TB test in the US it counts as a risk factor for TB

Can Pulmonary Tuberculosis be transmitted via saliva

Can Pulmonary Tuberculosis be transmitted via saliva?

Respiratory Diseases - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I know TB can be transmitted through the air so I would imagine it could be easily transmitted through saliva.
2 :
i'm not sure. ask your doctor. but i will tell you this. i was a nurses aid, and was exposed to it just by being in same room. I believe that virus is airbourne as well good luck. just because you are exposed doesn't mean you are going to get full blown case. you would just be exposed to it.
3 :
TB is transmitted through the air, only when it's active. Once a person has TB, they will have it forever, but it can only be transmitted when it's active. At this point, the person should be hospitalized and put into a negative airflow room. Visitors should wear protective gear, like masks upon entering. If TB is inactive, then it lies dorment in the body and cannot be transmitted to another person at all. How do you know if it's active? First sign, coughing, a lot of coughing, then coughing up blood.
4 :
YES! Period...YES. Anyone with weakened immune system is at risk. TB is, again, a growing problem in the US.
5 :
YES PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS CAN BE TRANSMITTED GO TO WED DICTINARNY MEDICAL BOOK LOOK IT UP IT IS ALSO TREATABLE WITH INFLAMMATORY MEDS AND YOU MUST HAVE A CHEST X-RAY TO SEE IF IT IS THERE ALONG WITH BLOOD WORK AND REALLY NEVER GOES AWAY

what is the long term effects of Tuberculosis

what is the long term effects of Tuberculosis.?
plz be more specific, more detailis will be better.
Infectious Diseases - 3 Answers

1 :
death
2 :
depends on if you have active TB or not. Most people infected with TB don't have active TB and the chance is very small that someone who is inactive with TB will become active with it. Basically, if you get active TB then you have severe respiratory problems and infections, severe flu-like symptoms with a nasty cough. If left untreated, the disease will basically kill your lungs.
3 :
Every time you have a TB test after having it your positive reaction is redder. In order to pass a TB test you have to have an x-ray instead of the usual test. You could get it again later in life. Statistics say latent TB untreated increases the chance of getting it again later.

does the tuberculosis test hurt?

does the tuberculosis test hurt?
I've never had it before and I'm terribly afraid of needles and shots. I've heard that it's nothing like a shot and it feels like a mosquito bite [which you normally DONT feel]. However I know that it is going to be administerd from a needle. Can someone give me some advice please, I'm freaking out, Thanks!

its a very tiny pinprick just like a mosquito bite --it doesn't hurt anything like a regular shot at all --don't worry relax and don't look lol
2 :
VERY thin needle, just under the skin, and a small bump, just like a mosquito bite. When done correctly, its fast and painless. Much easier than a deep muscle shot. Relax
3 :
No it does not hurt. In this test, a small quantity of tuberculin is injected just beneath the skin. The more painful part is the mental worry should there be a redness or swelling after 48 hours!
4 :
For getting TUBERCLUOSIS confirmed a test called Mantoux test is conducted. It is very easy and the pain will be like giving an injection. The Mantoux test is a skin test used to identify individuals who have previously been infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium responsible for tuberculosis infection and disease in humans. The test is performed by injecting 0.1 ml of a solution that contains an extract of cultures of the bacterium, called tuberculin, into the dermis layer of the skin of the forearm with a 27-gauge needle. In individuals who previously have been infected with the bacterium, either clinically or subclinically, the test may stimulate a reaction (called "delayed hypersensitivity reaction") if the body's immune system recognizes the antigenic components in the test solution. The skin reaction is "read" forty-eight to seventy-two hours after the injection by measuring the amount of induration (swelling) at the injection site in millimeters. The sensitivity and the specificity of the test depend upon many variables, and false negative results are common.-

Mantoux ? It is hurt for me. More hurt than usual intra musculary shot

question on donating cord blood and tuberculosis

question on donating cord blood and tuberculosis.?
i have TB and i was told by all my doctors i cannot donate my blood. when i do have a baby i cannot afford to save the cord blood but i'd love to donate, but can i? would they dispose of it or use it for research or what? i HAD TB, i got treatment for it and it isn't active.

1 :
If they told you that you can't donate it then you can't donate it. If it is really that important to you you can contact other doctors and hospitals and see if they have a policy on that. It doesn't really matter if it is active or not, they won't take the cord blood just like they won't let you donate blood at a blood drive. Doesn't look like you will be able to. It will just be disposed of along with your afterbirth.
2 :
I tested positive and was treated for TB about 9 years ago. I had my son almost four years ago and was able to donate my cord blood. I found this on a website: Tuberculosis Donation is: Acceptable if you have a positive skin test for tuberculosis, or if you are receiving antibiotics for a positive TB skin test only. If you are being treated for a tuberculosis infection, wait until treatment is successfully completed before donating. It was at this website: http://www.savannahredcross.org/blood_eligibility.asp#tuber . If you still are unsure, just ask your doctor, or the hospital you plan on giving birth at. I hope I helped. Good luck

trying googling it. that is usually the way to get the most answers
2 :
U can get in encyclopedia, google.com
3 :
try wikipedia.com
4 :
Merck Manual now free online and http://textbookofbacteriology.net/ Beware: wikipedia has many articles with misinformation.
5 :
Forget Google! TB is routinely treated with three antibiotics simultaneously ( a different oen everey six to eight hours) for about nine months. There are first tier and second teir antibiotics to fight the mycobacterium that causes TB, but soem strains are invincible, and death in those cases is inevetable. People used to call it consumption. Have you ever heard that term? The first address I've given you is the National Institutes of Health. The second is the Wikipediia entry.
6 :
I would go straight to the Center for Disease Control website.
7 :
you can find out about this disease at www.medicaljournal.org or com also try http://evolve.elsevier.com/Herlihy/ this is a student web site for medical it at least should give you other links
8 :
If you want to stay sat on your bum all day, Google or Yahoo it. Alternatively, ask at your local health centre. Go to a library, and check out the medical reference books there. You could go to a good university bookshop and check out the medical books there. Easy, really.
9 :
You can get information about tuberculosis from the library, the intranet, health department, and a book store (Barnes and Noble). I personally would recommend the health department as a more helpful and up to date source

You could just have a positive test. Have you had your lungs x-rayed? Alot of people test positive for it and have a clean x-ray! I tested pos for it a few years ago and all my x-rays have came back clean! good luck!
2 :
having a + PPD does not mean that you have TB it just means that you have been exposed. Active TB is symptomatic first with a chest xray that shows lungs infiltration then you would have a cough with bloody sputum of phlegm then fever etc.
3 :
I advice to talk to a health professional about your situation.
4 :
I have TB. My doc said it was not a problem. Three kids, no problems. I don't know if you can take the treatment for TB while you are pregnant (probably not). Your baby isn't at risk, but you need to make sure you get the treatment you need when it is appropriate. TB is dangerous if left untreated

Anti TB drugs are usually taken for 6 months. And the Lymph nodes from Tb are not treated by puncturing but with antibiotics. Sympotomatic improve can usually be seen 1-2 months after initiating the AntiTb drugs. If it doesnt resolve by then, you may either be resistant to the antibiotics or it may not be TB. ***TB treatment needs to be 4 drugs not one

The Gideons will help. That's what they do - provide Bibles to the community - hotels, hospitals..... Visit them on line at: http://www.gideons.org/Tgi.web/TGI.Web.PublicWebSite/default.aspx You will be able to find the nearest Gideons Organisation nearby.
6 :
HotelCertificate.org is a pretty decent organization in this field of charity. It gives people access to hotel rooms for a limited amount of time, to get hold of the Gideon Bible.
7 :
This is NOT a charity but it a group of people who leave bibles in Motels. IT is called the Gideons. go to a motel and look in the drawer and get the phone # of a Gideon and call them. They give bibles away to everyone. you might consider making a donation to them. God bless you. Also if you have access to the Internet you can look up the bible on it. God bless you!!
8 :
Drug-resistant tuberculosis is commonly found in gay men; There are Christian groups who do provide Bibles through the x-gay channels. Other than that, any Church would be more than happy to give you a free King James Bible.
9 :
Contact the American Bible Society. http://www.bibles.com/
10 :
Drug resistant tuberculosis is not just common amongst gay men. Drug resistance figures for men, women, straight, gay are almost the same. Resistance to anti-TB drugs can occur when these drugs are misused or mismanaged. Examples include when patients do not complete their full course of treatment; when health-care providers prescribe the wrong treatment, the wrong dose, or length of time for taking the drugs; when the supply of drugs is not always available; or when the drugs are of poor quality

It can take from 2-3 days or a week. Most of the time when people are first infected with TB, the disease is so mild that they don't even know they have it. People with latent TB don't have symptoms unless the disease becomes active. Symptoms of active TB may include: A cough that brings up thick, cloudy, and sometimes bloody mucus from the lungs (called sputum) for more than 2 weeks. Tiredness and weight loss. Night sweats and a fever. A rapid heartbeat. Swelling in the neck (when lymph nodes in the neck are infected). Shortness of breath and chest pain (in rare cases

Your question is hard to decipher but it sounds like you are asking if there is a cure for TB and AIDS. There is of course no cure yet for AIDS however there are medications which can slow the progression of the disease. TB can be treated with a combination of antibiotics. It is however more difficult to treat in an AIDS patient. TB can be very dangerous in an AIDS patient however it is not always the cause of death (there are many other infections that AIDS patients succumb to

In a TB test they inject a small amount of fluid in the second layer of skin on your arm.. No pee
2 :
If you are getting all your pre-employment labs done, it isn't out of the question for them to throw in blood work, but THC is typically a urinalysis (pee). If your employer is extremely strict, they can sample your hair and it will show THC until the part that was growing when you smoked grows out or falls out. Sounds like you may be getting tested for a job or school, most likely health related. If so, you need to grow up and pull your head out of your dime bag.
3 :
they dont look at your blood when testing for TB. its a shot in yhe inside of your arm and they wait a few days to see if there's a reaction to it. If it looks like its starting to swell and get red then you could have TB. So you have nothing to worry about unless you have to pee or they draw blood

I dont know about TB, but most people naturally get the fluid out of their lungs from pneumonia. I dont know of anyone who coughed it out, but the human body is made to withstand this kind of abuse and has ways to get the lungs cleared out. Hopefully a doctor can answer more specifically.
2 :
TB pneumonia is tricky. I hope he's in a hospital where they have some expertise on this type of illness. It's possible that they may need to remove part of a lung that has the tuberculosis in it, but that's hard to say since I have no idea where that infection is located. Drinking water will help if his lung is filled with mucus, but it's more likely pus - for which he needs to be on IV antibiotics. Plus...if he has active TB, he is infectious to anyone he spends time with. Make sure you and your family are tested and treated if the test is positive.
3 :
Pneumonia is a non-specific term denoting inflammation of the lung tissue (not the wall of tracheobronchial tree, that happens in brochitis. But many times they co-exist.), that may be due to virus, bacteria, fungus etc. So, tuberculosis (caused by a bacteria) can also produce pneumonia or the inflammation in the lung. Solidification (called hepatization) followed by liquefaction and coughing out of the fluid produced due to inflammation, are normal sequelae in the course of pneumonia. This results in complete recovery or part fibrosis. Hope I could make it clear. Good luck to your cousin! With modern antibiotics and other therapy I am 100% sure he will be OK. Edit- Infectivity. Not all cases are infectious as suggested by someone here. The infected part of lung, if in continuity with tracheobronchial tree or the respirastory passage, may spill bacteria in the respiratory passage. ONLY then the cases (called open tbc) are infectious and cease to be doing so soon after starting the antibiotic therapy. This is to assure the family members. Of course a proper hygiene must be followed. Anti-tbc antibiotics- Most are given orally. They are effective and well tolerated

Which is more serious; the swine flu or tuberculosis

3 :
Swine flu can reactivate dormant tuberculosis, increasing the risk of death. If you have been infected with TB sometime in your past, it is CRITICAL that you practice excellent hygiene and take preventative measures (as described on the WHO and CDC sites).
4 :
TB
5 :
Swine flu. I only say this because tuberculosis does have a vaccination, swine flu only has medication that pauses it. But in the end, tuberculosis is worse than the swine flu. If it didn't have a vaccination then the world would probably be screwed.
6 :
TB. far more deadly but doesnt spread as fast
7 :
Tuberculosis, claims much more lives and is an actual threat because it is starting to resist antibiotics.
8 :
both are very dangerous though since the chances of getting swine flu are so low at the moment tuberculosis is still more deadly however if you do get swine flu it could also cause you to get tuberculosis that is why swine flu is very deadly if you have had TB before then it is critical that you protect your self from getting swine flu you should do things like: -wash you clothes regularly -frequent hand washing -and if you do happen to get sick tell a doctor straight away and if it does turn out to be swine flu then early detection is key to getting rid of the bug

What will be required now regular medicine, cleanliness and healthy environment and food. You should understand why tuberculosis patients suffers: Because once lung tissues are destroyed they can not regenerate unlike other cells for example skin cells

What precautions should one take when coming into contact with someone who has tuberculosis (TB)

What precautions should one take when coming into contact with someone who has tuberculosis (TB)?

Other - Diseases - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The most important thing is - don't get coughed on. This illness is spread by droplet and airborne. You need an OSHA approved fit tested mask or a duck bill mask when in contact- I would also wear a gown and gloves.
2 :
If they have active TB you would have to have a airtight mask if you were going to be very close to them. I am an xray tech and we have to get fitted for the masks so they don't let any air in around your nose or mouth. But I think people can still have (or maybe "carry") TB and not be contagious.
3 :
TB is an airborne pathogen. You will need to wear a face mask. There are two types of acceptable masks: HEPA and N95. Anything else may not provide sufficient protection. Remember that face masks are one-time use only -- never re-use a mask. If possible, try to be in a well-ventilated area. Stagnant air will have higher concentrations of TB.
4 :
You can use disposable breathing masks to reduce your risk of contagion.
5 :
If the patients TB is active just starting treatment the patient should be on respitory precautions. Just staying in their room. All people coming into the room should wear a mask that has a special resevoir. Not the surgical masks. If the patient has only been exposed with a abnormal PPD test no precautions are required but the patient must start taking a special antibiotic.
6 :
nothing
7 :
Active tuberculosis is extremely contagious. It is spread by droplet transmission, meaning that someone in the same room could get it, but probably not in another room. You CANNOT use normal dust or particulate masks to filter out the infectious droplets! Even the HEPA dust masks have not been specifically studied to block the spread of TB, since they are designed to filter out dry particles, not water droplets. The only masks that are known to prevent its spread are called N95 masks, and are available in many medical supply stores. You cannot get TB through physical contact, so shaking hands, touching household items, and anything that normal household assistance entails should not be a worry. The bacteria cannot survive more than a few hours outside the body, so clothes and such can be washed without worry. for more info, check out http://www.cdc.gov/tb/faqs/qa_TBDisease.htm#Active6
8 :
You have already received some excellent advice regarding preventing TB exposure. If you came in contact with someone with TB and did not know it until after the contact occurred, there are some steps you can take. First, you would want to have a TB Skin Test to see if you show a positive or negative reaction. Secondly, see your primary care physician or the local health department. They will evaluate your situation and prescribe some medications you can take - most of the time for about 6 months

1900 & tuberculosis: Why would a parent die and his 5 children & spouse not

1900 & tuberculosis: Why would a parent die and his 5 children & spouse not?
Was it typical for the disease to only affect 1 person within a household? (The year 1900) (I'm trying to understand how TB affected households in the early 1900s. I have seen situations where only 1 person in the house would die from TB and was wondering why it didn't affect the other members of the family)

what is 1900? tuberculosis affects a person when his body resistance lowers ie weakens. if u have resistance in ur body u will not be affected if in the early stages TB has a very good treatment and its curable in late stages also. may be he was having some other problem also and combined effect is death

You can be exposed to TB and not get it. You can get it and not ever have symptoms (just be a carrier) or have symptoms years later. You can get it and have non-typical symptoms, and so die of it years later with out the doctors of the time ever realizing that you had it. You can have symptoms, but your body can fight it off and you can go into remission. There are too many variables too predict accurately, but it does seem very unlikely that the entire rest of the family would never get it at all, as it is a bacteria transmitted through the air. You also are overlooking the possibility that he was misdiagnosed. Diagnostics back then weren't great, especially if it were a poor family. He could have had lung cancer, lymphoma, a fungal infection, or any number of other diseases that they just didn't know about then

Your fever is too high, go to the hospital as soon as possible. They can help figure this out for you. Hope you feel better!
2 :
It is possible, but many things can cause those symptoms. Tuberculosis is the classic cause of blood in your sputum, fever, and weight loss. However, it is not the only cause. Depending on where you are, you could also have contracted an inhaled fungal disease such as Histoplasmosis, which also presents with these same symptoms. 104F is a really high fever, I'd highly suggest going to the ER

What is tuberculosis

What is tuberculosis?
I needa know what tuberculosis is. Like what it does to you. Make your answer concise I don't want long answers about the history about it or anything. just what it does to you. and how its spread.

Its a lung disease. You typically start coughing. They also have TB shots to see if you have been exposed. They do tb testing for most public health jobs or volunteer work.
2 :
google tuberculosis. Or wikipedia it. Do your own homework.
3 :
It is an infection in the lungs that causes them to loose capacity of air they take in. The capacity drops, which means you stop breathing. It is an airborne virus. Coughing, fever, aches and pains (severe).
4 :
TB is most commonly a lung disease. it is a bacteria (an acid-fast mycobacterium if you need to know that -- scientific name is Mycobacterium tuberculosis) that, when left untreated, can kill lung tissue and leave a cavity. it is spread by respiratory droplets (coughing, sneezing, etc) and its pretty seriously contagious. again, if left untreated, it can spread by your blood stream to other organs and your chest cavity and rarely can cause a brain abscess. it is hard to treat, because it is very resistant to medications. for that reason, it is usually treated with a combination of 2-4 drugs.
5 :
It's airborne and attacks your lungs. It's a very slow growing bacteria and can float in the air for up to 11 hours, making it easy for someone else to get. If you have it you will need to be on medications for up to a year. And in most states, if you don't take your medicine, you can be put in jail or on house arrest for that year. Each day a nurse with the health department and a police officer will come to your house and make you take the medicine. It is reportable to the state health department. The CDC tracks it all over the world. That enough info or to much? Merry Christmas.

I can't believe how lazy you're

Is kissing with tuberculosis can contaminate you

Is kissing with tuberculosis can contaminate you?

1 :
omg Yes!!!!
2 :
Yes tuberculosis spread with droplets. Get treated as if you have TB then you are compromising others around you. Spartan
3 :
only the kiss of death . It happends to be a very contagious disease, take some silver water and get alot of sun
4 :
kissing a tubrculous patient can only contaminate you if he is known to have an open pulmonary TB shedded in his sputum otherwise if not or if he is under treatment , don`t worry it`s ok
5 :
A lot depends on the person who has it. Is it active or dormant? If it is active, where it is at in the body? If it is active and in the lungs it is HIGHLY contagious and ANY ONE who comes in contact with the person can be infected as it is spread through the air that the person shares with others. I really think that if this was the case that the doctor and Health Dept. ( who is required to be notified by the doctor) would take measures to keep the person isolated from the public. My husband's was in his kidney so therefore he wasn't contagious. He had tested positive all his life but it wasn't active but lay dormant. When he was diagnosed, it had became active and he began to pass blood in his urine. He contacted it from his mother. His mother had it in her lung when she had been pregnant with him. When he was an infant she was hospitalized for years and had her lung removed. I don't think they take such drastric measures today as the medical field has continued to find new and improved treatments.
6 :
Hmmm... I'm not sure exactly what you are getting at. Are you asking: 1) If you have TB, would it be bad to kiss someone else 2) If someone else has TB, would it be bad to kiss them 3) Some other combo of kissing Also, you don't differentiate if the kisser/ kiss-ee has latent tuberculosis infection, active tuberculosis, or has been treated in the past for tuberculosis. Now, many people (15 million, to be exact) in the US are "infected" with TB. However, this number comes with a variety of levels of infectivity. If someone has been exposed to TB (ie. breathes a few of the bacteria in) and is able to control the infection and wall off those bacteria in their lung, they are considered "latently infected". They have a postive skin test for TB (called a PPD). They have a 10% life-time risk of those pesky bacteria breaking free in the lungs to wreak havoc and cause illness. However, while those bacteria are walled-off, this person cannot transmit tuberculosis, regardless of kissing. If this person has "active TB", this means that those bacteria are dividing and growing in the lung tissue, causing symptoms of fever, chills, weight loss, and cough. With each cough, thousands of those bacteria are expelled to hang in the air to breathed in by a new host. If you are within kissing range of this person, you are, too, at risk of breathing the organism in. This may result in either "latent" (non-infectious) or "active" TB. Also, if a person has active TB and is being treated (usually by the health department), they are infectious for varying amounts of time- give or take 2 months on average. I would avoid being in kissing range. In addition, if they are kissing, they do not have on their mask and every cough expells those bacteria into your airspace. Long story short- I am not sure who in the scenario has TB and what flavor of TB it is, but if you or someone you know has been told that they have "active" TB, don't start a make-out marathon. Also, visit your physician for a skin test and an X-ray.
7 :
Yes,unfortunately Mycobacterium tuberculosis(agent of tuberculosis) is a bacteria which one of it is enough for transmitted from infected person to others(infectious dose=1) and because bacteria is avilable in the airways of infected person(as a result of continious coughing),it can be transmitted by kissing and if your afraid about this subject you can take an tuberculin test

do you think people with contagious ,antibotic resistant tuberculosis be allowed in public

do you think people with contagious ,antibotic resistant tuberculosis be allowed in public?
what if one of these disease ridden individuals infected you or your family members, would you care about their civil rights then? just wondering cause the aclu is fighting for the rights of someone who has been jailed ,cause he knew he had this disease and still went shopping in public without a mask. hello,if the cdc knows you are contagious, so do you! he claims he didn't understand the severity, yeah right! what happens when he forgets next time? this dude needs to be deported back to Russia , to join his family,or stay in jail, well that's my harsh opinion, what's yours? okay, first off wearing a mask in public for non oinfected people is just paranoid and ineffective, a special mask is required and individuals must be fitted be a person certified to do this ,for the mask needed to filter out tb. harmony- the dude is incarcerated right now, it's no mixed up fact, go to aclu.org and read it for yourself and if this guy is not infectious then I have no issue with his being umasked in public, however he was jailed for being infectious without a mask in a convenience store, which is like an act of bioterrorism ,whether it's out of ignorance or not. infectious people need to be isolated in a hospitable , and refrain from freely walking around exposing the rest of the world

yes if u don't agree wear a mask when u walk in the public
2 :
no they should be quarantined
3 :
i would think they people with diseases should be able to go out in public. as long as they have the right things that they need so they want be spreading the germs to anyone else. such as a mask or gloves or whatever it is that they need.
4 :
If you think you're tough, take a listen to me.....anyone with an infectious disease, and has no regard for the health of others, definitely should be charged with attempted murder at the very least. What about the folks who have full blown aids, knows it, uses no protection, nor do they tell their partner? off with his......! or put a permanent plug in it. whichever fits. i guess I'm just a tiny bit more harsh, eh? And believe it or not, I'm a bleeding heart liberal! hah!
5 :
I think you may have your facts mixed up, the only person the CDC has had jailed since 1963 is the guy who was told not to travel and flew to Europe. He was contacted in Europe and told that his strain was especially dangerous and he needed to turn himself into the local infectious control and that he couldn't fly on commercial airlines. He then decided to fly back via Canada to get around the restriction. The CDC was then left with the task of tracking down everyone in the surrounding seats on the international flight he took and getting them tested. If ever someone earned a forcible quarantine this guy did.
6 :
That man doesn't have active Tuberculosis, which means that he is not contagious and never has been. People can carry the disease, but unless they have it active(fever and cough), then they might not even know they have it. He found out while being checked for something else. I think that people with active tuberculosis should be quarantined, but if you're not a threat to anyone, would you want to be basically jailed and your family lose the income your provide for who knows how long

I had a tuberculosis shot today and now my arm is red with a little swelling

I had a tuberculosis shot today and now my arm is red with a little swelling?
I had the test, not a shot!

it means you were tense when the shot was given. It will go down. Just wait a few days.
2 :
Ohh, boy. I hope it isn't a scar..my mom has a HUGE scar on her shoulder (it's 3D) from a shot she got when she was a girl..
3 :
I'm not claiming to be a doc, but watch the swelling and if you find you are working hard to breathe, HOSPITAL!!!!!
4 :
ok, I think you mean you had a tuberculosis TEST, not a shot, It is a small needle and a small amount of liquid is injected intradermally (under the skin) it makes a small bubble. This bubble goes down and the skin will turn a little red, that's normal. You must wait 48-72 hrs to have the test read, you return to where you got it. Induration and swelling is a positive result (that you have been exposed to TB), a little redness is ok as long as the skin is not raised up like a welt or pimple, it's ok. When they read your test, the nurse will run her finger over your skin to make sure it's not raised at all. If it is, they will measure it, a positive result is either >5mm or >10mm of induration depending on risk factors and the physician, hospital or clinic's protocols. However, you have to wait the full 48 hrs to read the test, my arm will get a little swelling at first too but it goes away after the first day and by the time the test is read the result is negative (no exposure to TB)
5 :
A TB test or a TB vaccination? If it was the test, BabyRN has a good answer for you.
6 :
That is normal.. Did they tell you to go back after a few days to have them look at the site of the test? Or give you a paper to show you what it should look like and what to look for

My younger sister recently was diagnosed of tuberculosis. Can her hubby have sex with her?Is it safe?

to be sure ask a doctor... the disease is really contagious.
2 :
he can ,but ur sister should not be an open case of tb.that is her sputum should be negative for tb bacilli and she should take her anti.tb drugs regularly
3 :
3 million people are diagnosed each year with an active Tuberculosis infection. It is something like 66% of the adult population who have the bacteria which cause it in their lungs. To be honest, I would recommend that they lay off it for a little while - if nothing else, it will give her lungs a rest. But in a couple of weeks I don't see why not. It is quite infectious - avoid anything she coughs up, and encourage her not to cough into the air - but it definately is not an STD. The antibiotics people have to take are quite nasty ones - you may find she is also just too tired or feeling to ill to want to.
4 :
When was she diagnosed and is she recieving treatment? If she has heen on treatment for more than 2 weeks then she can have sex, though i wonder if she will have the energy or the interest. If he has been living with her long before she was diagnosed, he should be taking INH for prophylaxis, hoping he was tested and is negative
