I have a question about tuberculosis

I have a question about tuberculosis?
I might have tuberculosis and i was just wondering if anyone out there was going through the same thing and what i might have to look forward with things such as treatment.

First what makes you "think" you have TB? If you do indeed have TB you will be on a long, long course oral medication.

There are several steps in diagnosing tuberculosis. First is the PPD test, where they give you the little shot in your arm and check it in a few days. If that comes back positive, they will usually do a chest X-ray and/or sputum (stuff you cough up) testing to confirm you do have tuberculosis. The treatment for latent TB (you don't have any symptoms, the TB is dormant in your lungs) is 6-9 months of a special antibiotic you have to take everyday. It's very important that you take the medicine the entire time because it won't work if you don't. If the TB is latent, you are not contagious and you can continue working/going to school/etc. If the TB is active, they give you several antibiotics that you take for 12-18 months. You are contagious at this time, and you have to stay out of public areas, or wear a mask when you do. Again, you have to take the medicine the whole time or it won't work. Best wishes and I hope everything is okay!!!

Hi. I personally dont have TB but i have been taking care of TB patients for 5 years. This can be a very trying time for the whole family because there is always a risk and chances that more than 1 family member could be infected. I would suggest that the whole family gets tested to rule out anyone else. About the treatment, It can be very stressing and sometimes also harmfull, but the only way to cure it is to take it. The treatment consists of 2 months of a combination of 4 or 5 drugs and a continuation phase of atleast 2 drugs for atlest 6-8 months. The first 2 months can be cery hard because of the number of pills their side effects. Some of the drugs like Rifampin can be very harmfull to the liver so its imoprtant to stop drinking while on this medication. Its also important to eat well while on this medication because for some reason it makes you want to eat all the time
