if it's in the infectious stage then the person must be quarantined for at least 3 months. if it's not infectious then it depends on the extent of damage to the lungs. he may get shortness of breath and other respiratory symptoms such as sleep apnea.. etc. but generally if he is treated early, lucky to have non-resistant strains, and have access to medication then he can live a pretty normal life

I agree with previous poster. Also to be borne in mind are the medication side effects. Most people with tuberculosis experience them ranging from mild to extreme. When I was taking tb meds I suffered a whole range of adverse reactions which continued after I stopped taking them. Some of the side effects actually mimicked the disease ie; tiredness and shortness of breath. I was later to find out I had been misdiagnosed

In the absence of medical treatment, during the active phase of tuberculosis there is a lot of stuff going on. The most recognizable is the cough with bloody sputum as a result of the tissue destruction in the lungs. Consequently, since the lungs are the site of loading oxygen into the blood, an infected individual will probably suffer from shortness of breath and fatigue (as mentioned previously). In addition, since a very intense immune response is taking place during the active phase of TB, lots of inflammatory molecules are being produced by the body which will lead to fever, inflammation (which further impairs breathing), and vasoconstriction (leading to high blood pressure and more trouble breathing). If the infection gets bad enough, and components of the bacteria enter into the blood stream, septic shock can also occur leading to such massive inflammation that vital organs shut down and the individual dies
